Holiday get-togethers and the drinks that accompany them are just around the corner. We love to throw a party but when we’re hosting, we don’t want to get stuck behind the bar.
The answer? Batched cocktails.
Pre-mixing a cocktail or two, in addition to beer and wine, gives your guests plenty of variety and streamlines the drinks table.
Here are a few insider tips:
- Make enough for about a third of your guests.
- Mix liquors and syrups in a pitcher or wine decanter up to a day ahead of time.
- Add citrus juices or fizzy ingredients just before serving.
- Prepare garnishes ahead and store between damp paper towels.
This week, we’re batching a Salty Dog cocktail. This is a great holiday party drink: You don’t have to mix drinks all night, grapefruit is in season, and the salt on the edge of the glass looks like ice by moonlight. Win-win-win.
Mix 1 part vodka with 2 parts fresh grapefruit juiceand refrigerate. Pre-salt glasses using lemon juice and salt. To serve, pour cocktail over ice and garnish with a lemon wedge.
